Partner organisations such as Kirklees Council, West Yorkshire Police, health trusts, Voluntary Action Kirklees and private sector representatives are brought together through the Kirklees Partnership boards to discuss key issues, prioritise and agree objectives, approve funding and monitor progress against the Local Area Agreement (LAA) outcomes.

As well as the Kirklees Partnership, there are three cross-cutting partnerships with separate governance arrangements, whose roles cut across the Local Public Service Boards (LPSB’s). Below is a list of these partnerships and a summary of their work:

Local Sport and Recreation Partnership

Role

  • To provide a wide range of expertise and opinion to ensure a balanced and equitable view is taken in the consultation and decision making processes relating to the development and provision of sport and recreation in Kirklees.
  • To influence the strategic planning processes across Kirklees related to the Sport and Recreation Strategy and those of partner agencies.
  • To agree issues relating to the development of sport and recreation in order to promote the contribution of other agencies.
  • To agree and promote the contribution of sport and recreation to key local agendas.

Terms of Reference

  • To work to the Council of Europe Definition of Sport
    (Sport and recreation means all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aims at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well being, forming social relationships, having fun or obtaining results in competition at all levels.)
  • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation and key outcomes of the Strategy for Sport and Recreation in Kirklees.
  • Developing the strategy in response to changes in national, regional and local policy drivers and changes in local needs.
  • Providing strategic guidance on the development of major new developments in sports and recreation provision in Kirklees and neighbouring districts.
  • Acting as a liaison point for local and regional bodies and partnerships, including the Local Strategic Partnership.
  • Influencing local service plans to ensure they reflect the broad objectives of the strategy.
  • To review and maintain a membership balance that continues to reflect the interests of the ethnic and cultural diverse community of Kirklees.

Kirklees Learning Partnership

  • The local authority vehicle to engage with the Learning Skills Council and other local parties i.e. colleges, universities.
  • Strategic Role leading on the 14-19 and adult learning issues.
  • Bidding for external funding and commissioning services to support 14-19 development.
