Community Strategy 2006-2009

Real progress has been made in achieving many of the goals set out in our last community Strategy (2002-2005), for example:

  • Unemployment levels have been reduced to a 30 year low.
  • Educational attainment at all ages has improved.
  • Many places in Kirklees are thriving.

Our current strategy reflects on this progress and outlines our ambitions and priorities for 2006-2009. Some of our key priorities are to reduce the number of people in Kirklees:

  • on low incomes
  • living in inadequate housing
  • with limited opportunities

The Community Strategy is split into four main themes:

  • Regeneration and sustainable development
  • Safer and stronger communities
  • Children and young people
  • Healthier communities and older people

These themes are reflected in our Local Area Agreement (LAA), which details key outcomes and objectives that need to be achieved in order for us to realise our ambitions. The objectives in the LAA are agreed by a number of local organisations who work in partnership to deliver them. Kirklees Partnership is accountable to central government for achieving the agreed outcomes.
