The Kirklees district and its challenges

Kirklees is a large area in West Yorkshire made up of many urban and rural communities sitting between South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. Our towns and valleys have their own strong and distinct identities and contain a rich and diverse mixture of cultures and faiths. This diversity, coupled with our complex links to major regional centres, creates a unique set of opportunities and challenges for our district.

Getting to Kirklees


By road
The M62 crosses the north of the district and offers easy connections with the M1, M6, and A1 north/south routes. Good roads within the area enable easy touring.

Road links: By rail
The frequent Trans-Pennine service provides a fast link from Huddersfield and Dewsbury to York, Leeds, Manchester, and Liverpool. Connections to the main inter-city east and west coast routes make it easy to get to Kirklees from all parts of Britain. By coach

Coach links: By air
Leeds/Bradford and Manchester International Airports have a large number of domestic and international scheduled routes. Both airports are easily accessible with a direct rail service to the area from Manchester Airport.

Airport links: By ferry
North Sea Ferries operate routes from Rotterdam and Zeebrugge to Hull - the North's major continental ferry terminal, which is just 1½ hour's drive from Kirklees.

Ferry links: Public transport
Whilst in Kirklees you can benefit from an excellent public transport system. Why not take a break from the driving and let someone else get you around.
